A Girl Can Never Have Too Much Makeup!

I will admit that I am a wee bit addicted to make up. In SL, I collect skins like some collect art and in RL,a trip to Sephora is practically a religious pilgrimage. So when I started the Creators Stamp Rally at Kurotsubaki, there was no question as to what I would buy in order to receive my first card.

The Makeup Belt by Kurotsubaki is 252 prims of beautifying goodies. From lipsticks and eye shadows to lash curlers and a blow dryer. This belt is a makeup snob's dream come true. My fellow makeup aficionado, Jezabell Barbosa commented immediately that the eye shadows reminded her of Dior...and I couldn't agree more! You can pick it up at their main store and then travel around to the other stores participating in the CSR, stamp your card and pick out a fun gift. I haven't filled my card yet, but I'll be sure to let you know what I choose when I do.

I also started playing around with some photo editing techniques. Adding some lens flares, playing with the lighting and shading, experimenting with some brushes...inspired and guided by my friends Ana Lutetia and Tucor Capalini. The photos above and below this paragraph are what I came up with. What do you think?

Shining In Chrome

Iota Ultsch of Tres Jolie Haute Couture has released her Chrome gown and it is a work of art created in honor of a dear first life friend of the designer.

Iota shared with me the touching story of her friend, who is battling breast cancer. The metallic texture of the dress represents the strength with which she has faced her disease and the metallic intervention against her body. The single exposed breast symbolizes the beauty of the feminine form and the vulnerability one feels when faced with the loss of such personal magnitude. A full-coverage version of the bodice is also included for the more demure.

The digitally generated design of undulating liquid chrome moves beautifully about the body. The belt is accented by Mother of Pearl medallions and horsehair tassels which add an earthiness to the otherwise industrial textures. This gown is central to Tres Jolie Haute Couture's current collection which is inspired by Iota's love for, and work in, the architecture industry.

Iota includes all of the accessories necessary to complete the look as it is intended, with a tall collar of polished chrome, large, but simple, hoop earrings and a contemporary take on the bindhi.

The 3rd annual Hair Fair will soon be under way! We are very pleased to have almost 90 participants this year, spreading across four sims. The Hair Fair will be sponsored by Rezzable, who have donated the islands for this charity event.

Hair Fair donates proceeds to Locks of Love, an organization that donates wigs to children who suffer hair loss due to cancer, burns, and other conditions. This year, all designers at the fair will donate 50% of one style to the charity.
We will also have donation kiosks placed around the fair, where you can donate directly.

Landmarks to the event will be posted on our website, and to the Subscribe-o-Matic group as we near the event. We'll have many events this year, including Bandana Day, the Fashion Show, quizzes, and the Flickr Contest. Of Content Theft and DMCA's

I was reading Ryker Beck's blog today and came across the open letter to Content Creators that she composed with Sasy Scarborough. Because I believe in the importance of their message, I asked Ryker's permission to reprint it here:

Who Has Our Backs?

In the past months, and most recently, it has come to light about yet another DMCA filing between designers. That’s not what this post is about. What we’d like to address here is the “keeping things quiet” aspect of these situations.

We completely understand the need for silence when dealing with said issues. However, one thing that has consequentially occured from doing so is that many, many bloggers are continuing to post on items they are unaware may turn out to be stolen. This is painful in the end for not just the designer - and we totally share your pain in this - but also for the many bloggers who have showcased/reviewed the products, filling their blogs with praise for the items, only to feel let down in the end and ultimately have their own values questioned.

Such widespread covereage on the SL blogosphere also leads to more customers/readers considering the products in question for purchase, and again the bloggers do feel very responsible for that. As many designers know, if a blogger at any time suspects an item’s integrity, they will immediately contact the designer to make them aware of the situation. In a lot of cases, this is what leads to DMCA’s being filed. Not everyone can have eyes everywhere to see their own content has been stolen.

But who looks after us?

Second Life fashion bloggers are valued and sought after to showcase items for many designers, but that is where the respect seems to end. We hold designers in such high regard. If we were told via IM or notecard that something was amiss with the content of one creator over another, we would be perfectly capable of keeping that to ourselves should you request that. Naturally, further blogging on the items in question would cease to occur. We understand that designers dealing with the trauma of having their work stolen may not have considered alerting the bloggers as a course of action in the past, but now is when it is crucial to stand united in this and feel more like a community than ever before.

Keeping it to yourselves is what is letting many content thieves get away with thier thievery. Without an undisputable display of theft, these “content creators” are able to continue producing, and in doing so they will inevitably use bloggers and fashion feeds as tools to spread the word. Bloggers, like designers, also spend many, many hours behind closed doors compiling blog posts and genuinely working hard on their own written content. We don’t always see and hear everything. In the past, too many newer bloggers have been attacked in comments on their own blogs because they weren’t aware of theft with a particular store. That in itself is reprehensible. If you know something the blogger doesn’t, IM THEM and let them in on it. If you don’t want to consider it as helping the blogger, at LEAST think of it as helping the designers that have been stolen from.

We hope that people will help us in the future by letting us know, privately and anonymously if necessary, that there is questionable content making its way around the blogosphere. We have no interest in spreading gossip! But we DO have interest in, as well as obligation to our readers to know about, content theft. Hopefully, in the end, we will not feel like we have to rip our blogs apart and delete older posts (which will consequentially punish other designers who were mentioned and linked to) in order to hide what has been done innocently.

Everything's Bigger & Better in caLLiefornia

Callie Cline has finally opened her new store in caLLiefornia and I have to tell you, the new build is a shopper's paradise...and it's not even completely finished yet! From the light, bright and spacious design to the elegantly ornate decor, not a single detail has been overlooked.

From the outside, the new building is sleek and whimsical, much like the designer herself. You may or may not know that when Callie first started designing, she wanted a store dominated by skull designs. Over time, though, her styles have evolved through glitter and gowns to vintage cocktail. Her current releases are eclectic and daring, fun and fashion-forward.
Step inside and watch the magic unfold before your eyes. The massive staircase and chandelier that are the focal point of the store's interior were once the standout features of the Opera House on the Intempesta Nox sim. Both were created by Sue Stonebender and Baron Grayson, and was acquired by Callie when the Opera House was destroyed in October of 2007.
When Callie won the staircase at auction, she didn't know what she would do with it, only that she had to have this piece of SL history...partly for it's historical significance and partly because it was Sue who introduced Callie to SL and Baron is an artist whose work she greatly admires.

As soon as Callie rezzed the staircase, she knew she wanted a store around it and called on Moxie Polano to help. Together, they, along with Barnesworth Anubis, created, moved, textured and retextured walls and floors and windows, then moved them around again until the current structure materialized. Callie calls her new store a work in progress, and you can hear the excitement when she talks about how inspired she is by that prospect alone.
Each room is themed...there is the "pink room", "wild room', "aquarium" (for swimwear), "dark room", "runway room", and each showcases a different aspect of Callie's eclectic personality and diverse tastes. And because the store is so large, Callie will be able to finally release the designs she has been working on for the past year that she just has not had the space for until now. And watch for the store to evolve over time, because now, when she gets bored, she won't have to build, she can just redecorate a room or two!

The rooms on the lower level feature Callie's ready-to-wear collections and the caLLie cLine HOME store. Here you will find the new Create-a-Dress Cruise Collection, accessories and her fun and funky casual styles.
Take the staircase to the second level and you will find the formal gowns, couture collections and Callie's own line of intimates.

Callie is planning a proper grand opening event for the fall and will begin hosting fashion shows on the grand staircase. She also intends to start the "rock-n-fashion" events as the new shop has a huge open space perfect for events without a lot of product in the way. In the future, look for artists whom she admires showing their work in the store.

But the really exciting part...watch for Callie to also introduce her brand new poses, skins, hair and shoes!

More Love For Marie

Tesla's new Marie Heels truly are fantastic. I just couldn't resist taking some more photos to show you how exquisitely detailed and beautifully designed they are.
The Maries, created by the one and only Tesla Miles, come in ten color combinations, with the toe cap in a color or tone complimentary to the rest of the upper. The colors range from a basic black, with it's grey, almost silvery toe cap, to a Torley-friendly watermelon, whose green and pink add playfulness and whimsy to a summer wardrobe.
Look closer and you can see evidence of Tesla's talent. From the stitching, even on insole, to the subtle shine on the buckle, no detail has been left to chance. The highlight and shading on the leather texture itself adds a depth and richness not often seen on the grid. The shoes feature a resizing script, as almost all of Tesla's designs do, to insure a perfect fit on any avatar. The moderate platform under the toe and the vintage-like T-Strap create a shoe that is grounded enough for casual, daytime wear, yet elegant enough for formal evening wear.

Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!

That is what I started singing, literally, when I logged in today and found that Tesla Miles had left a little gift for me. Well, not a little gift by any means, but all ten pairs of her brand new Marie Heels. Few things make me happier than new shoes, and new shoes from Tesla...that definitely takes the cake.

With so many color combinations to choose from, I was faced with a little conundrum: What to wear with these gorgeous T-strap pumps? I rummaged through my hopelessly unorganized inventory until I finally gave up and headed to NovoCaine for some quick shopping.

The Natsuki Obi Dress is the latest release from Novo Zimerman and Caine Lewinter, and is available in ten color combinations. From the delicate rouching on the bodice to the fit of the bow-belted skirt, every detail of this short, strapless dress is finished flawlessly. And the Earth version that I selected is a perfect match for the Chocolate Caramel Marie Heels.
But I couldn't stop there. I really wanted to show you more of Tesla's shoes, so I picked up the amiYumi Halter in Mink and the fat pack of Frayed Tops to show off a few more of the Maries. Then I camped out on Torrid's steps (well, the Step Pose Set, anyway)in my favorite jeans from Maitreya, and took a few pictures.

Go directly to Tesla and pick up these great pumps, and then take your happy feet over to NovoCaine and pick up some new clothes to go with them. It's Saturday and that is reason enough to splurge a little! Happy Shopping!

I Am A Fashion Assassin

A few weeks ago, Iota Ultsch sent a very special gift to her Tres Jolie group members with the following message:

"Are you a fashion victim or a fashion assassin? Get Dressed to Kill in Tres Jolie!"

Now, I will freely admit to being a little out of touch the last few weeks, but to have missed this?!? I must have been living under a rock. Why, you ask...Because the gift was this amazing Dressed to Kill Umbrella! And not just any umbrella, mind you, but a fire arm fit for a fashion assassin masquerading as a gun! Yes, weaponry and weather-proofing in one very fashionable accessory!

While I was photographing Torrid Midnight's Paraplu pose set and AO, I was chatting with the Tres Jolie group, and asked Iota to suggest a frock to go with my red paraplu. When I arrived at her boutique on Slusteria, and Iota graciously offered the umbrella I had missed out on, I knew instantly that I would be doing a second umbrella post. This time with Iota's Rouge Metallique dress as the star of the show!

As the name suggests, the frock is metallic in texture and hued in a vibrant red. The bodice features an offset neckline, perfect for framing the included choker. The skirt moves beautifully, as though made of silk, but it is the creative way in which Iota has used something as industrial and architectural as metal, softened it, and created a gown that is, at once, high-fashion and completely wearable. Iota also includes a gorgeous pair of pave diamond earrings to complete the ensemble.

Iota suggested these white patent ankle boots from Bax Boots, and they are perfect. They are also scripted for infinite customization. Wear them with or without the lace topper, change the color of the soles, the heels, the grommets, the laces...the possibilities are endless.

But there was one problem. How to shoot a photograph of myself using the umbrella as a weapon. If there is a way to take a photo of yourself while in mouselook, I don't know it. So, I called on fellow Tres Jolie group member, Applonia Criss to help out. She graciously provided the photos I needed and we spent some time chatting about her in-world magazine, NuView. Wow! What a passionate and creative person she is! I'll be sure to tell you more about Applonia and NuView really soon...I might even do a couple of articles for her! Wheeee!

So, don't be a fashion disaster. Everything you need to look and feel like a Fashion Assassin is available at Tres Jolie. And if you ask really nicely, maybe even add Tres Jolie to your profile picks, I'll bet Iota will give you the Dressed to Kill Umbrella, too!

Blame It On The Rain

I love the rain. I love listening to thunderstorms and curling up with a good book while raindrops beat against the window. And I love the way the air smells just after a soft, spring shower. It's no surprise then, that I also love umbrellas and rainboots. Think back to when you were a child and how much fun you had splashing around in puddles. Brings a smile to your face, doesn't it?

When I received notice that Torrid Midnight released her Paraplu Pose Set and AO, I knew immediately that I had to have it! The paraplu, or umbrella, comes in two versions, open and closed, and features scripted color and texture change. Or you can custom modify your umbrella as I have done here. The pose set also includes ten poses.
The AO comes with the umbrella, also scripted with seven textures, four stands, a walk, hover, sit and ground sit animations. Perfect for a day of shopping...now there is no need to let a little drizzle keep you away from the boutiques!

For my day of shopping, I've chosen a classic Trench from Armidi Gisaci and wellies from Urban Bomb Unit. The breezy blue color is the perfect offset for my red paraplu and the polka-dotted boots add just a touch of whimsy. I'm all set for some singing in the rain...come rain or come shine.

Happy Anniversary to Me! Oh Wait...

It is actually the first anniversary of the Retrology sim. So...Happy Anniversary, Retrology! Though, to be honest, with all of the gift-giving going on, it's definitely an anniversary we can all celebrate! I stopped in yesterday for just a quick look around and came away with some really fabulous goodies.

::eLDee:: actually put out two great little outfits and I added the Lara jacket layer, a jade green shrug, to the skirt and top from the Zana outfit. The result, a perfect blend of greens and blues, with an urban-grunge look. I added a leather cuff and collar, a midnight blue manicure and a hip belt to complete the look.

What is my favorite part of the outfit? The shoes, of course! Tesla's Ziggy Heels in Heaven are a perfect match. Tesla Miles is the queen, in my book, of uniquely detailed shoes...and the Ziggy's are no exception. I especially love the scripted resizer so that I can custom fit them to my avatar.

Who Wants Pancakes?

Sunday mornings are all about being comfortable and maybe even a little lazy, right? Sometimes, though, I feel inspired and will actually venture into that seldom used room in my house, brush the dust off the stove and prepare a breakfast. Today, it felt like a pancake day!
Jacek Antonelli is terribly talented, undeniably brilliant and is, quite literally, the very definition of sweetness. She also, bless her, thinks that my name is Pancake as opposed to Panacek. And you know how touchy these creative types can be...I just hate to correct her. *winks* So, today's look is inspired by my favorite Cuddlefish. Enjoy!
Okay, so I guess we can't really call this a fashion blog unless I talk about something more fashionable than lying around in a pool of syrup. Is that even possible? So here's a quick peak at what I'm wearing.
A totally casual look for a day of lazing around. The jacket from Novocaine is beautifully textured and features a belt with scripted color change. Which came in very handy when I decided to add a little sparkle to the outfit and chose MichaMi's Glitter Tube in purple. The hair is from Detour, and I really think I'm starting to like their wigs. It's just taking some getting used to, as I'm a diehard ETD girl. It's the jeans, though, that really anchor this look for me. The Raw Jeans from Maitreya were my very first SL purchase. I love love love them, and wear them constantly. The shoes are from Shiny Things and I'll talk more about them in my next post. The skin is Fleur, as usual, Feline, of course.

The Black Swan Sings

The Rezzable sim, Black Swan, is filled with glowing water and impressive works of art. In celebration of the sim, Callie Cline teamed with Nebulosus Severine to create a look that is at once uniquely couture and signature Callie.
The sculpted skirt features circular orbs filled with water and the aquatic movement is encapsulated in the jeweled pendant and earrings.

The bodice of the dress is made of crushed velvet and the plush texture is echoed through the soft feathers of the skirt and sleeves.

In addition to the the sculpted water orb skirt and feather train, the seventeen-piece Swan Song Collection by Callie Cline includes a ball-length skirt, a mid-length skirt and a shorter mini-skirt, a plain black sculpted skirt, eye-flashes, gloves, a water ring with the same glow and movement as the sculpted skirt, stockings, gloves and a fat belt. And of course, the bodice and shorts can also be worn on their own.

The Swan's Tears jewelry collection by Nebulosus Severine includes two necklaces, two pairs of earrings, Sea Green Glow Contact Lenses, and both black and white blank eye bases to be worn with the contacts.

A Balancing Act:

The Beachwear and Lingerie Expo is in full swing at Vanity Universe. I stopped in this morning to have a look around and was fairly impressed with the selection of high quality fashions available...and I picked up a couple of gifts while I was there, also.

In the end, though, I looked at my overloaded inventory and realized that I had more swimwear than I need, so I decided to beef up my lingerie collection in an attempt to even things out.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love love love a long, flowing bedroom jacket over my lingerie. (I offer my need to wear Digit Darkes' Determined Coat almost daily as Exhibit A) So, when I walked into the Nicky Ree shop at the expo, there was no question as to whether or not to purchase the Vicky Lingerie Set. The textures are beautifully detailed from the embroidered lace on the edge of the jacket to the little ribbon tie on the brassiere. The set also comes with a lovely, satiny chemise for when you want a little more coverage, but still look sexy and chic.
It seems that each time I wear a babydoll anything, I'm greeted with the inevitable "Preggers?" question from Guy. I doubt he'd find anything remotely maternal about this stunning little bit of nothing from Casa Del Shai, though. The hand-drawn design is captivating and the modestly cut panties are demurely enticing. The sheer teddy skirt on the Malena Lingerie Set can also be removed exposing just the tiniest ruffle underneath the breasts.

For shoes, I made a mad dash to Stiletto Moody and picked up the Mary Jane Sandals in Johns Silver and the Gladiator Sandals in Tan-Brown. Though, I could kick myself now for not splurging on the color change option. Oh, well, the Shoe Expo is going on, so I'm sure I will find something worthy of my hard earned Lindens there...but that is another post for another day.
Some other details...I toned down my usual raspberry-hued lips and opted for a glossy, pale pink, but kept my signature cat-like eyeliner (I could kiss Roslin and CJ for this Vivant Feline skin from Fleur, it is indeed my very favorite and I'm rarely seen in any other). My nail color is Super Nova from Nevermore Studios. And for hair, the blonde wig I'm wearing is Lindsay by Dernier Cri, and the brunette is Eva II in Caramel by Maitreya.

Oh My MichaMi!

I'm currently working on an SLNN article about blogger-turned-designer, Milla Michinaga. Her wildly popular blog, MichaMi, is probably responsible for my addiction to SL Fashion, and it was through her blog that I discovered many of my favorite designers (yes, Milla is to blame for my Digit Darkes addiction). So when I heard that she had begun selling her own designs, under the same name, of course, I had to rush right over and buy her entire debut release!

Today, though, when I logged in, I found that she had sent me a review copy of her her latest release, and I was on cloud nine! On top of that, I finally found Creamshop and these giant earrings I have been lusting over for ages! Don't ask me why, but on the few other occasions I've tried to find this store, I've found myself in some really crazy shopping sim and not able to actually find the store and too rushed to spend enough time looking...yes, it appears I only have half a brain on occasion).
The texturing on the bustier is gorgeous, notice the delicate boning and seaming. Each article of clothing is available on all possible layers for easy layering. Milla also packs a photo of the outfit and includes a notecard listing her styling suggestions. I love this as one of the things I've always loved about Milla's blog is her careful selection of accessories, so even though she is no longer blogging, she's still giving us her fashion tips!
I love the giant Glam Earrings from Creamshop and couldn't pass up the Cock? Swan? Necklace. It's just too fantastic. I also found the Lily Bangle and thought it would work to add a little splash of color to the outfit. Add J's Gladiator Sandals and I'm ready for a summer night out on the grid!

I'm Loco for Loco Pocos

My friends Damien Fate and Washu Zebrastripe are incredibly talented. I've always known that. But, even with that knowledge I was not prepared for the wonder and awe I discovered while visiting their latest endeavor, Loco Pocos Island. Here are a few pictures I took while exploring the sim with Damien Fate, Washu Zebrastripe, Sasy Scarborough, Gwyneth Llewellen and Ana Lutetia.

"LOCO POCOS ISLAND - Damien Fate has gone out on limb, literally, to bring to the Second Life grid an interactive destination unlike any other.

On July 9, 2008, Second Life (tm) residents will be able to experience, first hand, the magic that is Loco Pocos Island. The island is built with a story in mind, and visitors are invited to search the island for pages from the unfortunate Captain B. Bonnik's journal. Each journal entry will piece together the history of Loco Pocos Island and will lead the visitor to secret locations where special tasks and rewards await. The centerpiece of the island is the mythical tree, Rokeden. With it's rich texturing, imaginative design and Fate's characteristic attention to detail, visitors to the sim will instantly become immersed in, and a part of, the fantasy that is the story of Loco Pocos Island.

Fate felt inspired to create Loco Pocos Island hoping to bring a unique experience to Second Life residents. "My dream was to create something new in SL, not with just a product, but a whole island experience. Something that is intuitive, bringing things to a whole new level and above all, bring everyone in SL together by removing all language barriers possible." Fate continued. "Sims can be so much more than just a store, avatars can be so much more than just prims."

Loco Pocos, which, loosely translated, means "crazy tinies", are the inhabitants of this magical island. Each sculpted avatar, equipped with a user-friendly HUD, is meticulously detailed and textured. The Loco Pocos are infinitely customizable via the HUD for maximum personalization. Each avatar is able to emote and gesture via the HUD and wearing any of the multiple Loco Pocos accessories automatically updates the HUD with the appropriate customization options for that item.

The HUD itself is designed to offer maximum ease-of-use. The graphic icons are easily recognizable and a users manual, translated into seven languages, has been provided for those who prefer text based instruction. Overall, though, each avatar and it's HUD was designed so that the end-user could visit the Island Store, purchase an avatar and begin exploring all of the island's adventures within minutes.

Prior to beginning the Loco Pocos project, Fate worked with the Electric Sheep Company, playing a major role in the development of such notable projects as Ben and Jerry's island, IBM Sentinel 2.0, and CSI:NY (tv shows and inworld game/machinima), independently developed a popular line of Final Fantasy avatars, and the mirada.smartHUD, an emotion HUD which, to date, has sold over 5,000 units.

Fate was joined in this endeavor by his partner and wife, Washu Zebrastripe. Zebrastripe is a beta lifetime member of Second Life and is the original creator of prim hair. Fate and Zebrastripe are also co-owners of the Hairspray Sim.

To kick off the Grand Opening of Loco Pocos Island, a massive scavenger hunt event will begin at Noon SLT on July 9, 2008. Visitors to the sim on this date will have the opportunity to win a unique avatar which will only be available during events at Loco Pocos Island.

Rouge Has Arrived!

That's right. Today is the Grand Opening party for CodeBastard Redgrave's new sim, Rouge. The theme of the night is, of course, red, and I chose my gown accordingly. I actually thought of changing it once, but this is the dress Codie liked and since this is her day, I decided to stick.

Several people are keeping their party attire a secret but, since I have another, bigger, secret to keep, something had to give. So, I'm giving the metaverse a sneak peak at my homage to Rouge.

The gown, handbag and boa are from Rebel Hope, the earrings are Paper Couture, and the shoes are, of course, Stiletto Moody. Apart that, you'll find another tried and true ETD wig on my head and my makeup is by Fleur.

And, just in case you missed it (and I don't know how you could really, it's been all over the blogosphere since yesterday afternoon), here is the official Rouge Press Release and pictures of the sim. See you at the party!

"ROUGE - Saturday, July 5, 2008, marks the highly-anticipated unveiling of CodeBastard Redgrave's new sim, simply named, Rouge. Redgrave is the creator of the infamous Boudoir Rouge portrait series, developer of the MachinimaCam and Dramavatar fashion line, and owner of the Code Red Lounge and Gallery.

The aesthetic design of Rouge was conceptualized by Redgrave and legendary builder, Eshi Otawara. From that point, Otawara used her skills as a builder, designer and artist to create a multi-purpose destination that will serve as the new home of the Boudoir Rouge Gallery Walk, Code Red lounge and Rouge Boutique.

Just over 2500 prims were used to create the basic structure, artwork and furnishings. Otawara's judicious use of mega-prims and unique textures has created a locale never before seen in Second Life. The land is formed in the shape of a female silhouette outfitted with artistic touches signature to Rouge's proprietress. Visitors to the sim will instantly recognize Redgrave's signature color, and the sim's namesake, as well as her ever-present red stilettos. A black and red feather boa serves as the roof of the Gallery Walk and a shock of wavy hair provides cover for the Code Red Lounge.

The Rouge Boutique is housed inside a dance pole shackled at the feet of the silhouette. The boutique will offer selections of Redgrave's own creations, as well as, offerings from some of the grid's most notable designers. All items available for purchase in the Rouge Boutique will feature the color red in keeping with the sim's theme. Designers who have already signed on to have their designs featured in the Rouge Boutique include, among others: Casa del Shai (Shai Delacroix), Juicy, Tesla, and Bluebell Productions.

Additionally, Rouge will be available for use by individuals and organizations wishing to host parties, fashion shows and other events in a unique and beautiful setting.

Rouge will open, officially, with a Grand Opening party that will begin at 2:00 pm SLT on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Events are planned throughout the day and night so that the festivities can be attended by friends from around the globe. Hostesses for the evening will be the luminous duo of Queen Coronet and LadyArwen Demina. The DJ line up includes some of Second Life's most sought after mix masters:

A Red Letter Day

On Saturday, July 5, 2008, Second Life residents will finally be able to experience, first hand, the highly-anticipated unveiling of CodeBastard Redgrave's new sim, simply named, Rouge.

Codie, as she is affectionately known, is the creator of the infamous Boudoir Rouge portrait series, developer of the MachinimaCam and Dramavatar fashion line, and owner of the Code Red Lounge and Gallery. Apart that, she is also a very close friend of mine.

Having had the opportunity to watch the transformation of this sim from barren desert to work of art at the hands of legendary builder, Eshi Otawara, I can honestly tell you that Rouge is, indeed, one of, if not THE, most unique and beautiful builds I have seen in Second Life to date. And it is quintessentially representative of it's proprietress.

From the official CodeBastard Redgrave website:

"ROUGE — CodeBastard “Codie” Redgrave, photography artist and content designer, has the immense pride and pleasure to announce that her brand new sim, Rouge, will open it’s doors to the public with a smashing huge party happening Saturday the 5th of July, starting at 2PM SLT. It will end up several hours later to accommodate friends from both the American and European timezones.

A press conference will be held Friday the 4th at 6PM SLT for all bloggers and journalists interested to know more about Rouge and the opening event. The new sim will be hosting various events, from art events to fashion shows, and will be available for rent to any organization needing it for holding special events. It is also an awesome leisure resort where Secondlifers can come anytime they want for a good time in good company, in a very spectacular setting. Moonlight Serenade

In case you couldn't tell by my last post regarding Chambre du Chocolat, I am quite the fan of Eshi Otawara's designs. Having had the opportunity to spend some time with her lately, watching her transform a barren sim into a work of art (check back for my upcoming post on the opening of said sim, Rouge), I've become even more of a fangirl.

Her latest release, Moonlight is a vision in slinky sexiness. Beautifully textured with a to-the-knee plunging neckline, mermaid skirt and a sculpted hood draped down the back, the dress is perfect for an evening of dancing with that special someone. Eshi has also included a necklace and earrings that perfectly complete the ensemble. The dress is also available in red and teal.

Words alone cannot describe the refined elegance of this gown, so I will let the pictures speak for themselves and cut right to the style sheet.

Oh, but I will leave you with one, final thought...get thee to Chambre du Chocolat tout de suite and buy out the store! There is not a single uninteresting or less-than-stunning design to be found. You won't be disappointed.

My Sweetly Dark Side

One of the things I love most about SL is being able to change my look any old time I want to. And lately, it seems I've been more interested in "darker" styles. That would explain why I didn't hesitate to pick up this Ghost Princess outfit from !* REBEL-X-*! (though, honestly, given my love of accessories, it was probably the umbrella and the crown, not pictured, that did it for me). My only complaint? The skirt is too big and does not mod down any smaller. Hula hoop, anyone?

While trying on this outfit, a friend passed me a landmark to a store called Katat0nik. Always up for exploring a new store, I teleported over there to find some really cute stuff. The black boots are an in-store freebie, as is the adorable pink skirt.

The too-cute hoodie has a really great little fish (wearing a crown, no less!) on the front. The texture is a little blurry around the waistband, but all in all, it is well-done. And very reasonably priced. The pink boots were a little pricier, but have a beautiful texture around the leg prim and are a lot of fun to stomp around in. And can I just say that I looooove when designers include multiple sizes for their boots. I'm always nervous when I have to resize something like that.

Thinking that maybe my regular, blonde, ETD hair wasn't edgy enough for these outfits, I wandered over to Maitreya to see if I could find something more suitable. What luck! I found the Aimee style in a free fat pack. Free hair is always a good thing...well, usually.

For the skins, I just did a search for Goth and came up with one from '<3 cupcakes that I wore with the Ghost Princess outfit and I chose the RFL exclusive, Lust, from La Sylphide to wear with the Katat0nik outfit.

I'm thinking about exploring the whole Goth Lolita look a bit more, so stay tuned!

I Love The Nightlife...

The last couple of weeks have seemed like a tangle of parties and events. I'm exhausted! But looking back on the pictures, I am remembering all of the fun that was had. It is always great when friends, old and new, come together for dancing, conversation and, of course, mischief-making. So, I thought I'd share a few of them with you...just for kicks.

I mentioned in a previous post that Guy and I hosted a party at our home, The Retreat at Balboa Beach. It was a fabulous time, but I was so busy playing hostess that I totally forgot to take any pictures! Bad, Gabby, Bad!

Not to worry, though, last week Damien Fate, Codie and I snuck around with Guy and Nexeus Fatale to throw a surprise 5 1/2 year Rezday party for Washu Zebrastripe. You read that correctly. Washu is older then Second Life. She is an original Beta Lifetime Member, but has sadly NEVER celebrated her Rezday (It falls on the day after Christmas...so mark your calendars). Damien made confetti launchers that went off whenever anyone said "Washu," Nexeus played all of her favorite tunes (and a few not-so-favorites...mm bop, anyone?), and lots of friends made their way over to dance and celebrate with her. It took some sneaking around, but we managed to keep the secret. Codie even had to find a way to eject Washu from her group so that she could send the invite without raising suspicion. It worked and a grand time was had by all. That is, until the powers-that-be decided to do a sim move in the middle of it! But, such is life in Linden Land, right?
Then came yesterday's Plurk/Twitter Meet Up organized by Osiris Pfalz and held at the Code Red Lounge. Tenebrous' sploder weakness was brought to light, the dancing poles were filled and 60's/70's/Disco fashions were the style du jour. These meet ups give us an opportunity to meet, in avatar, those with whom we share insight, witticisms and random minutiae when we are not in world...and sometimes even when we are. There was an excellent turn out and everyone had a great time!

After all of that, there was a fashion show and yet another party hosted by Mony Markova and her friend Sigmund Leominster at their new home. I've had a great couple of weeks, but have had very little time to work on some of my pet projects, this blog being one of them. So, I hope that the next few weeks are a little slower as I have some great posts planned (hint: I've been exploring my darker side lately). Stay tuned.

Style Flip: Cyber Punk

Sofia Gray mentioned, on her blog, a new store called .:: MekaNoiZe Labs ::. . This futuristic build carries a very limited selection, at present, of well-made clothing.

Their design aesthetic is decidedly CyberGoth/CyberPunk, and is a complete departure from my usual style. But, lately, I've been itching to mix it up a little bit, and the outfits I picked up at .:: MekaNoiZe Labs ::. provide that opportunity.

There are three outfits currently available for sale: Invader, De/konstrukt, and Monokrom. Items are hand-drawn and are provided on multiple layers for easy mixing and matching (check out how Sofia used the top from the De/konstrukt outfit with a tutu and created a completely different look).

The hair that I am wearing in these photos is fantastic and is also sold at .:: MekaNoiZe Labs ::.. Be advised, though, it is sold separately AND is included in the Invader outfit (I didn't realize this and now have two of each color). But, the texturing on this wig is phenomenal. I think I could wear this everyday, but it doesn't really fit with my "everyday" wardrobe. So, don't be surprised if you see me wandering the grid in cyberpunk fashions more often just so that I will have the opportunity to wear this hair!

Some may find the prices to be a little out of their budget, but considering how exceptionally well-made the pieces are and the accessories included, I didn't even bat an eye. Individual pieces are available and are reasonably priced.

Be sure to visit .:: MekaNoiZe Labs ::. soon and while you are there, take a minute to look around the unique build and fly down to [Schema Oxymoron], a furniture store that features sleek, contemporary designs. I wonder if it might be time to do some redecorating?

Hair Fair 2008 - A Call To Designers

Spirit Dazzlers Audition Information

"Hello and thank you for your interest in the SPIRIT Dazzlers Cheer and Dance Team. The SPIRIT Dazzlers is a team of cheerleaders, dancers, and spokesmodels who will represent SPIRIT with class, grace, and style at special events, paid performances, and charity events, model in upcoming SPIRIT catalogs, ads and fashion shows, appear in an annual team calendar, and perform in commercials and videos for SPIRIT. Ladies who are chosen to represent SPIRIT on the SPIRIT Dazzlers team will be paid for their participation at these events and modeling jobs, will have exclusive opportunities to build their modeling portfolios as few others can, and will receive many custom and prereleased SPIRIT designs while an active member on the team.

We will have 3 sections to the audition process, and we will make our final decision by July 31, 2008. Also attached is a breakdown of dates and an application.

1. Please create a folder named Dazzlers-(your name). In this folder please put the application and include 3 pics of yourself. 1 being a headshot, 1 being a full bodyshot and 1 being your favorite shot that will show us your personality. Please do not include nude shots.

2. The second portion to the auditions will be an invitation-only interview where you will be interviewed by SPIRIT Dazzlers Team Owner SavannahAnn McMillan and myself.

3. The third portion will be a tryout which will be a review of terms and moves. You will be given a move and you will just have to execute it in an order asked by the choreographer.

If you are chosen to become a member of the SPIRIT Dazzlers team, please be sure that the shape you send photos of is modifiable and one you are willing to dedicate exclusively to SPIRIT approved usage only.

It has been a crazy couple of weeks! For some reason, I've felt like I was extremely busy...and now I realize that I have been busy procrastinating posting anything on this blog. So, I apologize for the completely unacceptable lack of updates.

What have I been busy with, you ask? Well, I can try to tell you, I suppose. But mostly, it seems like the last couple of weeks have flown by in such a flurry of activity, that I'm not quite sure I can remember all of it. I'll give it a shot though, yes? Here we go...

First, Guy and I hosted our very first party at our home on Balboa Beach. We had so much fun with all of the preparations, but wanted everything to be perfect, so we spent alot of time on it. We were so pleased with the turn out! So many of our friends were able to make it and we stayed up until the wee hours dancing and laughing...I think a few even hung around long after I finally had to trade my dancing shoes for a pillow. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to attend....especially those of you across the pond who fought the time zone monster to be there.

Then, Babyhoney Bailey made the decision to relinquish her Miss SL Universe crown. Rosie Shark and I were enlisted to interview Bho and Frolic Mills (Miss SL Universe founder) for SLNN.com. It was fascinating to work side-by-side with Rosie and we were up very late documenting the drama and writing our article. You can read more about it here. Also, I just want to mention that it was great to find a new friend in Rosie, this girl is utterly fabulous. Be sure to check out her blog, Mean Girls Guide to SL.

But mostly, I've been having the best time meeting all kinds of Twittery, Plurky friends. It is so much fun to use other Social Networking outlets to broaden your SL horizons. As Codie and I discussed, SL on it's own is a horrible social networking device. There is no real way to connect with people of like interests, so these other outlets provide that opportunity. I can't tell you how many kind, generous, interesting, intelligent and ridiculously talented people I have met since I picked up the Twitter and Plurk habit. I credit the two photos in this post to one of these new friends, Jessyka Richard. She turned me on to the walking-on-hands AO and the spoon-on-the-nose trick...and you know how I love these neat little gizmos! Seriously, though, I am honored to have met each and every one of you, my dear Twitter/Plurk family. *smiles*

Also, one new something that I am really excited about it Codie's new sim, Rouge. The uber-talented Eshi Otawara is designing it, and while I won't give away any details - both Codie and Eshi have insisted that it remain a secret until it's completion - I can tell you that it is Fantastic with a Capital F! I am on the edge of my seat waiting to post some pictures here. It will be soon, I'm told, and there will be a fabulous Grand Sim Opening party to show it off. Stay tuned!

Oh, AND I celebrated my first Rez Day on Saturday! Yay me! I've really come to love my Second Life and all of my Second Life friends. Thanks to all of you who have made this so special to me...Guy, Tucor and Codie, I love you most of all.

Pretty in Pink

I was playing around not too long ago and decided to wear everything pink in my inventory. Maybe not all at once, but I'm pretty sure at some point in the evening, I had on every stitch and pixel of pink I own.

Black & White Done Right

A few weeks ago, while shopping with Codie, I picked up these great over-the-knee boots. But, I was never really successful at pairing them with anything but a latex catsuit (Dionne from Insolence's new Misty Line, please). After spending some time with her again this past weekend, I was inspired to put together a look that was a little edgy, a little couture and a little glam. So, who does any fashionista turn to for edgy couture glam? Digit Darkes, of course!

Oh, sure, I could have paired the boots with DD's new Determined coat (try the black coat with these boots and the bra and panties from Insolence's Melanie in Red...hot, hot, hot!), but several other bloggers have done a great job photographing the DD's newest release. Besides, I really wanted something a little more suitable for an evening of dancing with Guy. Since our favorite DJ, Jen Noel, let us know in advance that the theme for the night was Black and White, I started looking for something that would show off the boots, look great on the dancefloor, and still complete my edgy-couture-glam vision. I think it works, what do you think?

I'm also trying on a new skin. This is Nemesis - Bronze Skin 03 by Beauty Avatar. I am huge fan of Ryker Beck, so when she posted these on her blog, I knew I had to run out and try them on. She has a great review of the entire Nemesis line, so be sure to check that out. Oh, and did I mention she is one of the sweetest, most generous girls I know? Summer has finally arrived, it seems, as the sun is now making regular appearances and I'm feeling inspired by it's bright warmth and the cool nighttime breezes.

Warm weather style is all about effortless chic. Whether your dressing for day or night, casual, formal or somewhere in between, the goal is to keep your look fresh and flowing, but still completely pulled together...as though you've just run in from the pool with only a few minutes to make yourself fabulous.

Missing Communities

This isn't going to be your usual post from me...don't worry, I'll be back later with some great summertime looks. But for now, I want to bring to your attention, dear readers, some new information about the SL5B Celebration. The official announcement reads, in part:

"Each year, on the date that Second Life came out of beta (June 23rd 2003), Residents and Lindens have gathered to celebrate the amazing world we’ve been creating. This June 23rd, our community marks its Fifth Birthday, and the volunteer Birthday Team (who has been planning this party since last year) picked a theme that will be hard to resist– “Celebrating the cultural diversity of Second Life”."

However, this year, several cultural communities within SL will be left out of the festivities. The SL Children communities, as well as Gor and BDSM communities have been banned from participation. When the event was announced on the Second Life blog, it was made clear that this event would be created by and for the residents.

"This is a Resident-created, Linden Lab-sponsored event, which means that Linden Lab has donated the land and various basic resources, but the rest comes from you, the community."

It appears this is no longer the case. You can read more about this travesty by visiting the blogs of those who are able to speak on this subject far more intelligently and eloquently than I. Writers such as Tateru Nino of Massively.com, Vint Falken, Dusan Writer, among others have added their voice to the cause. (Actually, Vint has an excellent list on her site).

I ask you to please vote for the Missing Cultures and Communities from SL5B Jira issue reported by Vint Falken.

Chouchou et Chocolat

The first time I met my very dear friend CodeBastard Redgrave, she was wearing the most gorgeous dress covered in sparkling red paillettes. A gift, she said, from her friend Eshi. Like a fool, I only nodded and complimented it's beauty, never asking more about the designer.

A couple of weeks later, I received an invitation to a taping of Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe at the SLCN studios. The featured guests were to be Eshi Otawara of Chambre du Chocolat and the musical group Chouchou. Finally making the connection between Codie's friend Eshi and Chambre du Chocolat, I visited her boutique for a look around and instantly fell in love with the glowing, ethereal Smokey Tux Dress.

Having visited the seductively barren Chouchou sim before, I knew at once that this dress would photograph beautifully there. I wasn't disappointed.

Because the dress is so captivating in its composition and movement, I chose to keep my accessories simple.

The dress does come with a pearl choker that is lovely, but I chose to wear black pearls to accentuate the smokiness of the gown itself.

I chose a simple updo from ETD that had some volume to balance the width of the skirt. I also opted for the Diamond Bee Ring from Paper Couture that I am in love with and tend to wear with just about everything.

Oops! I Got A Little G.L.A.M. on my LAP

While sitting around on my beach earlier this week, I received in inventory offer from Dove Swanson of Long Awkward Pose. Now, I love Dove dearly, but I have to admit that I was a little nervous about what could be in the folder tantalizingly named "Slippery." To my delight (and relief), it was a preview of her newest pose set. I wasted no time and immediately began an impromptu pose-off with my dog...what? she was the only one around!

I loaded the new goodies into my pose stand and my pose HUD(both from Tillie's...both fabulous!) and continued my inventory organization marathon...by the way, I was diligent and managed to trim off 5K by eliminating old notecards, duplicate landmarks, freebie gestures and storing some duplicates that had been lurking around, weighing me down. But I digress...

While putting clothes into their proper location, I came across my G.L.A.M. folder and realized it was woefully empty. Then I remembered that they were having a sale at one point so I sauntered over to see if the sale was still going on and, if not, were there any new releases. Luckily for me, the sale was still on so I loaded up on some great mix and match pieces and fat packs (at 200-300 L$ per pack, how could I pass it up?)

I chose two outfits from this G.L.A.M-apolooza that really seemed to fit the new Slipper pose set from Long Awkward pose.

The first outfit, at the top of the post, is a sleek pencil dress with a great black belt. To keep the look chic, I opted for only my black ChiChi Pumps from Maitreya and my favorite sunglasses as accessories.

The second outfit, a satin corset jumpsuit, just begged for a heavier hand in the accessories department so I added a great flowy belt, a stack of bracelets and a charm necklace. Oh, and check out the shoes! These are Pixel Mode's new Leeza Stiletto. They have a great little platform under the toe and fabulously high heels. I'm especially fond of the shiny, but not overpowering, texture.

Dove released the Slippery pose set this week, so head on over to Long Awkward Pose and pick it up. I'm starting to think this is my favorite of Dove's sets so far...then again, I say that with each new release...she's just that good.

I have no idea how long the sale at G.L.A.M. will continue, but you will want to run there right away and stock up on some great ready-to-wear outfits and inventory must-have separates.

My Personal Trainers

Call them what you will...trainers, sneakers, tennies, running shoes...I love them! And I'm especially a fan of good old Converse All Stars. (You just can't beat a great pair of Chuck Taylors!) So, when I saw these sneakers on Sofia's blog, I immediately jumped on Pyper with a torrent of ZOMG's and Squeee's. I knew right away that I had to have a pair...and they are every bit as fabulous as I had hoped.

To showcase the shoes, I decided to put together a totally casual and comfortable look, perfect for lounging at the house and trying to get a little work done.

I headed out to DeLa* where I picked up this great tank and scarf combo. I love shorts, so I was having trouble deciding between the cute and baggy black ones or the totally comfy cargo shorts. Which do you prefer?

Let's talk about the shoes. These are from Urban Bomb Unit and are the PornStar Xtra Hi-Tops and they are Unisex. Every piece of the shoe is modifiable via a scripted menu. You can modify the size, wear them straight up or folded down, change any of the textures individually, change the laces, the lace rings...everything! I had so much fun mixing and matching textures and in then end, for this look, I settled on a very tame Falu Red and Burberry Plaid.

The attention to detail on these shoes is fantastic. Check out the scuff marks on the toe of the shoe...even a little handwritten "I heart my shoes" written in ballpoint pen. I mean, who didn't write on their shoes in high school?!?

So, if you need to give your tootsies a break, slip your feet into these adorable shoes...and then have fun playing around with the options to make them uniquely yours.

Oh, and while putting this look together, I couldn't help but stop in AnaLu and pick up some new poses...yeah, like all of them (gasp!). Ana Lutetia makes some great poses and even offers a free-to-use photo studio at her main store location. And if you really want to keep up with all of the new releases, be sure to check her blog...this girl is quick! quick! quick! when it comes to reviewing all of the latest and greatest from SL fashion designers.

The Y Factor

I thought I'd break from the norm and throw a little men's fashion at you. Just a little something to satisfy our readers with that pesky Y chromosome. I asked Guy to model for me and he was gracious enough to oblige after only a minimum of arm-twisting and sweet-talking by yours truly.

So we set out to find a couple of new-to-us items and came across Valiant. There are some really nice designs here and we picked out several. Then we made off to Shiny Things for some shoes and then rummaged through his inventory to fill out the looks.

The top photo, of course, is a great tuxedo from Rebel Hope. We really like to go out dancing, so this particular outfit comes up pretty often in the rotation.

With the vest, cuff and loafers, this look is perfect for a concert or other relatively casual outing....like shopping. (Honey, would you mind holding my purse, please? I just want to look at one more thing...)

And for ultra casual days, the open jacket with prim cuffs and collar work perfectly with the grey wash on these jeans from Rogue.

1. What time did you get up this morning? My alarm went off at 6:00 am...I finally rolled out of bed at 7:15am

2. Diamonds or pearls? All Diamonds, all the time

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema? Bridge to Terabithia, I usually TiVo movies from PPV

4. Favorite TV show? Dexter, but since the season is over...I'm into The Tudors...oh, but Weeds starts up at the end of the month. So, yeah, I like the Showtime series...they replay often enough that I don't have to worry about missing an ep.

5. What do you usually have for breakfast? Coffee or Hot Tea, Yogurt, Granola...unless I stop at the bakery...then it will be something considerably less healthy

8. What is your favorite CD at the moment? Todd Snider - Tales from Moondawg's Tavern...a five CD compilation of live recordings that a friend sent to me

9. Favorite sandwich? Turkey and Swiss in a pita with cucumbers, sprouts, tomato, and lettuce, a little mayo and good, grainy mustard.

10. What characteristic do you despise? Arrogance

12. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would it be? My little spot on Crescent Beach in Siesta Key, FL...not the least bit exciting, I know, but it is my favorite place in the US. I would, of course, love to travel Europe...but if I have to pick one place...it's SK.

Travels with Gabby and Guy

Hi CC Readers. Gabby finally convinced me to contribute to her blog. So...rather than following her around from fashion show to fashion show carrying her purse, I decided to explore some of Second Life’s™ more "educational" sites.
One that we found was The David Rumsey Map Collection..

Now, before you start yawning...TAKE A LOOK at this fantastic site. Those who appreciate the "art" of SL™ site construction will be amazed when they read the note cards available to visitors at the site...ie: "Second Life™ Interpretation was done by segmenting the original map into forty-two 1000-pixel-square textures, then separating each texture into layers. Each primitive segment contains two to five layers in order to achieve the illusion of depth."
This is just an example of the meticulous attention to detail paid to the site construction.
When you arrive you will find yourself on

"Yosemite Valley"(Topographical Map) 1883 - Wheeler, George M.
This is one of the earliest detailed surveys of Yosemite Valley in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. The map shows interesting cultural features in the valley, many of which no longer exist. The steep valley cliffs are shown with a map style of the 19th century called hachuring - closely spaced lines to indicate slope."

An Armidi Vacation

I have to admit a little secret...I've not always been a big fan of Armidi. I know, I know, I've probably just ruined any credibility I might have had with that little confession, but, alas, it is true.

However, that has changed dramatically over the last few months. I have really been impressed with their most recent releases, particularly the Vacanze collections. So when I received the group notice, I scrambled over there to pick up a fresh batch of loveliness...as did everyother fashionista on the grid, it seems, as I ran into half of them while I was there.

Antonia Marat of Artilleri gifted her update group yesterday with a preview of her new skin line. I've featured headshots of these adorable skins below.

/artilleri/ Emi skin - Anett makeup Skin Tones Left to Right, Top to Bottom : Full Length: Cream, Headshots: Porcelain, Cream, Sunkissed, Tan, Dark Tan - all with the Freckles option.

I love the glossy not-too-full, not-too-thin lips and the way they turn up at the corners just a smidge is delicious. The eye makeup is subtly smoky with blue-grey tones and dark liner. Various eyebrow shades are included and the blonde is perfect for the paler skin tones.

Speaking of, I was quite pleased with the skin tone range available. The porcelain shade is lovely but a bit pale for my taste as I usually stay just to the light side of most tan skin tones. But the cream tone is fresh and slightly rosy, I could definitely see myself wearing it. Overall though, the sunkissed tone is my favorite. Oh, and freckles! Each skin tone comes in a freckled or non-freckled version.

Both Guy and I are huge fans of MaxMarine (I've previously blogged about my love affair with the Swordfish 40 here), so when we received the invitation to a Grease-themed party from MaxMarine owner Maximilian Milosz and Artilleri's own Antonia Marat, we knew this was one event we would not miss. And, let me tell you, boys and girls, we were not disappointed!

Dressed in our finest 50's/Retro/Rockabilly-inspired duds, we joined a fantastic group of revelers and danced the evening away. Max passed around Strawberry Milkshakes, Pixie Honey led a rousing trivia challenge, Amethest Peck and Anais Paperdoll kept the crowd excited, Otawan Fouquet kept the music going and Antonia was, indeed, the Hostess with the Mostest.

As for me, I pulled the look together by adding to my already bulging Artilleri collection. What can I say, the party was intended to celebrate the end of Artilleri's big sale (*begs Antonia not to make us wait too long for the new releases), so I had an excuse to shop. The Amy Winehouse-inspired hair and sky-high heels complimented perfectly the red and black ensemble I finally decided on.

Day to Night

Do you ever have those days when you find yourself running between the office and an evening engagement without time to go home and change? I do. Alot. My daytime purses are crammed full of shoes, smaller evening bags, mascara, lipgloss and random bits and bobbles...the ultimate arsenal for any quick-change artist.

In SL I spend alot of time wandering the grid, dressed in my smartest shopping attire, searching out clothes, events and builds to tell you about. But, when that work is done, I like to glam it up a little bit and head out dancing with friends. This post is all about taking a wardrobe staple and making it work from Day to Night with just a quick change of accessories.

Oh, and the best part...you can toss these chic linen pants in your oversized daytime bag with no worries. They will come out of your inventory just fine and you'll never even see the dry cleaning bill.

I started with the Loose Neck Tunic in Black from GLAM, shortened the sleeves and wore it with the puffy layer. This was the base for the transitional look. For daytime, I added the Tilda Pants from Cachet, a gold chain from Miam Miam, and some black platforms from Shiny Things to anchor the look. I finished off with a big red bag from Bianca F. and stuffed it full with all of the accessories I would need to change for an evening out.

When the workday was finally finished, I traded in my classic linen pants and platforms for a deliciously glam gold skirt and Paris boots from Digit Darkes, threw on some nylons, added a bolder necklace and ring from Paper Couture, some shiny gold bangles, and finished it off with a gold paillette clutch from Fleur (formerly Tete a Pied).

For good measure, I tied my hair back in a loose and messy knot...it can get hot out there on the dancefloor, you know.

Color Come To Life: The eLDee Fashion Show

Picking up where I left off, Saturday evening was as busy as Saturday afternoon, and the highlight was attending the eLDee Fashion Show at the JM Models Fashion House. Lilyana Dryke, the L and D of eLDee, is quickly becoming one of my favorite designers for her easy-to-wear style sensibilities and dressy-casual chicness.

Our host for the evening, Eddi Haskell (sorry, have to giggle just a little here as that name calls to mind fond memories of one of my favorite childhood TV shows)...oops, back to the post...Eddi described the featured designer in this way:

"Lilyana is a designer with a fondness for beautiful rich colour, stunning unique textures and simple yet striking, fun, flirty and sexy casual designs in her outfits. The collection you are about to see tonight will appeal to every taste and personality, especially for the girl who likes to mix n' match her wardrobe, these outfits are a must."

This is my second time attending a show at the JM Models Fashion House, and I have to tell you that I just love the facility. This time I even hung around for a little bit after the show and everyone was just so friendly (why am I always shocked by the friendliness in SL? I've yet to meet a truly boorish av). Meetups and Openings and Shows...Oh My!

Saturday was a very busy day on the grid and I did my best to make the most of it! First up was the Twitter meetup where I had the opportunity to visit with all of my new twitter friends.*waves* I only wish I'd thought to take more pictures.::sigh::

(What? You don't twitter? You simply must, darlings! Ha! I even talked Guy into it!)

Harper Beresford and CodeBastard Redgrave hold court at the Twitter Meetup.

While at the party, my new, fabulous friend, CodeBastard Redgrave, invited me to attend the opening of the Arthole gallery with her. I spent the rest of the afternoon wandering the exhibits in abject amazement and then dancing and laughing and taking part in general mischief making.

When you arrive at Arthole, you are given a notecard that reads, in part:

"Arthole is a new collaborative project between Arahan Claveau and Nebulosus Severine. Having successfully worked together for the first time in 2007 on the exhibition Salon Du Disruptif for the Heldscalla Foundation, they were eager to establish a permanent space for their work.
Split into three separate levels, the gallery has been very consciously conceived to be a continually evolving space, that will strive to challenge and surprise the visitor. The environment has been designed to encourage exploration at a more considered pace, and those that choose to do so will likely be rewarded with a much more immersive and satisfying experience."

In fact, you will find several notecards as you study the individual works. Read them. They are full of information that will enhance your enjoyment of the exhibit.

Instead of regurgitating that information to you here, I'm going to leave you with some photos and captions and brief little snippets...and a direct command to visit the space for yourself. I promise that you will not be disappointed. Click on each photo for a larger view.

Located on the third level, which will be used for exhibits by visiting artists, this photo was taken in the space created by Arthole's first guest, Ichibot Nishi. The installation is titled "λ.mnemonic” and there really are no words to describe it, you must see and experience for yourself. Codie took the above photo of the two of us inside the giant vagina. Like so many of the exhibits, both Simulacrum v2 and Untitled v2 are scripted to provide a multi-dimensional display. Simulacrum v2 shows subtle changes in movement and texture that will mesmerize the viewer and Untitled v2 is comprised of a series of overlapping images creating an ever-evolving work of art.

Null will really draw you in. When you first teleport to the level, it appears to be simply a bright white room with pyramidical walls. Walk into the space, though, and you will notice that the walls follow you. Go ahead, fly around, they'll keep up. Did I mention that you need to turn your sound up when visiting the gallery? No? How remiss of me! Please, do make sure your sounds are turned up, it will really enhance your experience here. Especially when you turn away from the Null space and enter the Fontana exhibit.

My favorite exihibit, though, is titled Fuck me/Shoot me. Each of the eight colored panels is comprised of tiny, repeating images of an anonymous, shirtless British soldier holding a gun. (The inset picture here, showing the detail, was taking from the notecard provided by the artist) As you walk or fly into the panels, the color will change on contact. The interactivity, and gravity, of the piece is awe-inspiring.

Oh, and I did mention the party, yes? Of course, I remembered the party! What a fabulous time! I must thank Codie again (and again and again and again) for inviting me...we danced up a storm, laughed hysterically and held a very *cough* serious *ahem* discussion as to the pros and cons of jiggly prim breasts.

Oh, but the busy day did not end there. Later that evening, Guy and I attended the eLDee Fashion Show featuring the designs of the uber talented Lilyana Dryke. Tune in Monday for pictures from the show.

Come Sail...er, Speed...Away

Have I told you about my new home? Guy and I recently moved to Balboa Beach, where we share a sim with new friends Donal and Lorrie. It is a beautiful place with lots of lush landscaping, white sand beaches, and, because it is a part of the United Sailing Sims, wide open water for boating. So, of course, I am learning to sail. I have the sweetest little Pine Tako that Guy outfitted with new sails that depict the perfect sunset. It is just the thing for romantic jaunts across the USS or competitive races at Starboards Yacht Club.

Sometimes, though, a girl needs something a little racier. This new boat from MaxMarine and the new bikinis from Mimikri are just what the doctor ordered.

The new Swordfish 40 from MaxMarine owner and creator, Maxmilian Milosz, caught my eye the first time I laid eyes on it. And the fact that it was available in pink was just a bonus! I haven't bought one yet (I think it will be a little present to myself once my inventory is under control...call it incentive), but that didn't stop me from visiting it at the marina and taking some pictures of the new St. Tropez line from Mimikri.

The textures of the bikini are gorgeous, creating a subtle sparkle on the otherwise simple triangle top and the thong bottoms fit my avi very well. The optional skirt and top pack includes a maxi skirt (as shown below), a babydoll top and miniskirt. You can see more of the collection on Mimikri's blog. My only complaints: there is no fat pack available (I want it in all colors!) and the bikini and skirt set are sold seperately. I'm trying to clean up my inventory, remember, so it would have been nice to have all of these items in the same folder without having to move them there myself. I can be lazy like that. Gee, maybe that is why my inventory is such a mess now, ya think? Ah well. It is what it is.

I'm Going On A Diet

Tuesday night I had some time to myself so I decided to hatch a drakelet or two and work on organizing my out of control inventory. It has reached situation critical and drastic measures must be taken.

Why drakelet hatching? I love the thrill of hunting for new hatching locations and the little drakes are just so cute! But most importantly, Drakelets take about 45 minutes to hatch, and during that time you have to stay in one spot...waiting. So, that is 45 minutes that I can set aside to work on my inventory without distraction. Also, building is allowed in most of the Grendel's Children areas, so opening boxes is not an issue. But, I digress...

I'm going on a diet. That's right. Until my inventory has been returned to a manageable state, I will be cutting out the fat (read: deleting those items I know I'll never actually wear or need) and only consuming new releases that I just can't live without. I actually thought about not allowing myself to make ANY purchases until I was down to a manageable weight (read: item count), but then the "what ifs" took over. What if ETD puts out a new release of hair or shoes? What if Tres Jolie releases a new dress that I have to have? What if Muse introduces a new line of jewelry? No. I had to leave myself an out to take advantage of these possibilities.

For the time being though, I'll be posting about items that I find in my inventory that I had completely forgotten about be they clothes or objects or landmarks. I hope you will enjoy all of the treasures that I have buried so deeply.

Archange Has Arrived

At exactly 9:01 PM SLT on Monday Night, fashionistas from all over the grid answered Danner Dosei and Katterina Dagastino's call to attend the Grand Opening of Archange. The opening marks the debut fashions on this new partnership and also signals Katterina's return to the SL fashion world since the closing of Last Call.

Here is just a sampling of the designs you will find at Archange, located in the former Last Call building. I will be posting more about the designs and these designers as soon as recover from lag exhaustion.

An Evening of Fashion

Last night, I was fortunate enough to attend the Alchemy and Angels Fashion Show produced by JM Models Fashion House. And, to make the evening complete, Guy was able to escort me to the show...~smile~ The show was beautifully produced and the models were stunning. The real stars of the show, however, were the designs by Constanza Volare of Alchemy and Isobel DeSantis of Angels. Gunther Allen, our emcee for the evening provided the best description of these two talented designers.

"Constanza is a dress designer with a fondness for bold colors and rich, shimmering textures in her stunning designs. Her dresses take you back to the golden age of Hollywood glamour - but with a contemporary twist.

Isobel makes some of the finest shoes and accessories in Secondlife, delicately crafted with amazing detail and a range of color choices to match all the outfits Constanza makes."

Cachet To Spare

Cachet - \ka-ˈshā\ - noun - 1: an indication of approval carrying great prestige, 2: a characteristic feature or quality conferring prestige.

Minnu Palen and Thora Charron embody the very definition of the word, so it is no surprise that their latest foray into haute couture should be branded accordingly. With the release of their Spring 2008 line, I have decided to post a retrospective of my favorite pieces from their debut line and a sampling of new releases.

Let's begin with Cachet's debut release...
The Ford (Ice) Dress, with it's short white skirt and cut-out at the midriff, is textured beautifully and gives off a sheen that feels almost iridescent. The two photos featured here show off the dress in a setting with more natural daylight and with with the windlight settings manipulated to showcase the iridescence of the texture. Thanks to Tucor Capalini for providing the photos and allowing me to shoot at his Lunar Landing location.

The Spider outfit, with its wrap of tulle, sleek pants and fashion-forward belt, is edgy and fun. Though the tulle wrap floats around the body fluidly, one would never consider it "fluffy" or "confection-y," this is couture, for sure.

The Marlene dress takes the inventory-staple Little Black Dress and pushes it into Haute Couture. The low-cut bodice is perfectly complimented by the futuristic headpiece, with it's silver and stiff netting, and the strong profile of the shoulder pieces. The simple silver clutch, which comes with the outfit, is a simple and elegant touch that serves to ground the outfit, not overpower it.

Victoria takes the classically feminine line of the babydoll dress and infuses it with a lot of style. The rich plum color and sheer white tights can be dressed up or down without detracting from its couture tilt. Here I've chosen to pair it with some sculpted boots from Redgrave.
And now....drumroll, please...for the new releases...
Alex is a vision in chiffon chic. The skirt moves beautifully and the slight slit in the front of the skirt offers an occasional glimpse of the matching panties. This dress needs nothing more than a pair of nude, snakeskin peep-toes to make this fashionista feel like a lady.

Recently, I read a comment from Caliah Lyon (she of Muse fame), praising the detailing of Cachet's pants. The Tilda outfit demonstrates this beautifully. And though I love every outfit I have purchased from Cachet to date, this is the one I would kill to be able to rez into my RL wardrobe.

Finally, GoldGlam is delicately textured with an upscale leaf-like pattern that takes the metallic gold from day to night with ease. I've photographed the skirt here, but when you purchase the outfit, you'll also receive pants with the same attention to detail mentioned above.

If you've not yet visited Cachet, I encourage you to throw on your stilettos and head over there tout de suite. You won't find an overwhelming number of items, but a carefully edited selection of designs and accessories. Each item is fashion-forward yet wearable, and, to my mind, very well-made. In other words...this is a boutique with Cachet to spare.

Strike A Pose

I know what you’re thinking. And you’re right, that is the most obvious title I could possibly have come up with. The truth is, Lawless McBride gave me a great title. I’m just not creative enough, nor talented enough, to segue it into an introduction that doesn’t dissolve into potty humor, so I had to *cough* flush it. Lack of creativity and talent, though, are certainly not issues for Dove Swanson of Long Awkward Pose. I recently met Dove and Law at their treehouse for a little chat.

Dove came to SL in October of 2006, so she has seen some pretty amazing changes come along. Is there anything that stands out - good or bad - as the biggest change?
Dove Swanson: Hmm. Voice at first ...I was totally opposed to it, felt like it would change the game for the worse. But then I got over that silly mentality and embraced it - I'm glad I did, because I spend probably every minute on SL in a private voice conference with Law anyway. So yeah, I would count that as a big, and good change.

Windlight was pretty neat at first, the concept anyway....but now I think it's one of those side projects they spend too much time on improving when THIS client is still total shit. Can I say shit?

I was totally excited about sculpties too ...first time I heard about it on the blog I went "oh my god, that's going to change SL as we know it" ..and I [love] sculpties :D

And there are a few changes that haven’t been so great and actually limit a business owners ability to provide the kind of service their customers deserve. According to Dove, there are “tons of little nitpicky things too ....the group limit and it's many glitches ....transactions history ....lack of support for bad transactions and so on. [It] kinda takes alot of power out of our hands and leaves us helpless most of the time when it comes to our customers." Even with those challenges, I’m sure you will find that Dove, like so many content creators, goes out of her way to help her customers.

Let's talk about the products Dove offers at [LAP]. When asked why she chose to focus on poses, I learned that Dove used to do photography in SL. “…and after I got burnt out on photoshop” she says, “I remember thinking about how I used to say ‘gosh, this pose would be perfect IF...’ or ‘I wish this pose was a tiny bit different.’ And I thought, ‘I'm sure alot of other photographers/graphics artists in SL think the same thing at one point or another, maybe I could do something about that.’"

According to Dove, the progression from photography to posemaking seems very natural and she is confident that many of the current photographers will be making their own poses in the future.

It seems the truly creative people are the ones who see a need for something and just create it...like you've done...I'm so jealous of that skill and talent.
Dove Swanson: I am jealous of so many people's skills, trust me. lol If I could make clothes instead of poses, I probably would. Or hair. Or build even. I envy those talents and skills! Just so happened that pose making seemed to be something that I was actually good at - still surprises me to this day because I don't really think I am ...but I guess so. I look at them and I think "hmm, could be better" ...maybe that's just the perfectionist in me talking - but then people like you will say this sort of thing and it makes me all warm and fuzzy and sometimes I have to let myself believe that maybe I found my calling :D

I want to see how I turn out at animating ...that's my next big project. I will create a whole animation ...think that it's okay ...upload it ...test it out ....keep trying it for like a week - and then I trash it because it's just not right or good enough. So I've been practicing and hope to fine-tune my skills (or lack of)...

Where do you find inspiration for your poses?
Dove Swanson: Oh lordie, all over the place! For specific sets ..like the themed ones? Geisha, Faery, etc...I will usually search out photos or art of that sort of thing with google. For my model/normal everyday poses I very very often rely on magazines ...I'll even be flipping through a People magazine sometimes and go "OH! I like that pose! I could do that!" and voila. lol I use Maxim alot for the sexy/dramatic poses.

Law has been helping to inspire my more recent men's work ...I think it really helps to have his male input on them ...as it probably shows in my first and second set versus the latest stuff which in my opinion is way better than the early work. He will clip magazine ads and scan them in for me ...or find pictures on the web and show me and sometimes he just verbally describes it for me and I give it a whirl and we fine-tune it together.

I noticed your latest release includes some props (yay!) have you got more in the works?

Dove Swanson: Yay 4 finishing the prop work! LOL That was bit of a headache and more of a task than I thought it would be. I was originally just going to make poses for the props and just sell them that way. But then I thought how annoying that would be for the end-user and so I had to find a script, which took days, then I had to mod it, which took more days, and test it and so on ...then I was finally done and you know, I actually am excited by the possibilities it opened up. I really do want to work with more props - I've had some offers from people...which is good since, unfortunately, I'm still NOT a builder at all. LOL I will have to probably always rely on the kindness of others to let me use their work in combination with my work. I would love to do some chair/wall/rail work though. I've always always wanted to do a tire-swing set...and to script it now that I have that technique would make it so much more fun.

So you collaborated with Laynie on this recent set. Any more collaborations in the works?
Dove Swanson: yes I did, Laynie is a sweetie. There are some more possible collaborations in the works...but nothing solid yet, so I can't say :D I imagine in the future, since it would become difficult to work out pricing schemes between props and poses, my work will just be commissioned and sold to the creators of the props (or objects rather, since some are not just photo props).
So Law helps you work through some of the men's poses...does he participate in other aspects of the business as well?
Dove Swanson: Oh yeah...he participates in almost every step of the male poses now. From inspiration, to actually being the avatar they are tested/adjusted on, to modeling them for ads and so on. He also is the resident "door greeter" aka: flirt. lol He likes to think he schmoozes all my lady customers :D Plus he just plain ol' puts up with me grumping over poses when they aren't going how I want them to....stands around watching me work on them for hours - he's really very patient. lol He inspires quite a bit of my couple's pose work now too. Hehe, I guess that's to be expected. They're fun, I tend to be a little goofy with mine sometimes. heh. I try not to take myself *too* seriously.

Any hints as to what we can look forward to from LAP in the next couple of weeks or months?
Dove Swanson: Ooooo ...:D I've already got more male poses on the table in progress....some themed sets also that were requested "special order" ....I want to break into the wedding side of things a bit - do a whole collection, from couples poses, to singles, to props even - all wedding themed. And of course, as I've been promising, animations and AO sets. I think actually, that I am going to start gearing my pose releases to be better made for AOs - slowing the transition on them, lowering the priority ...so that they can easily be added and used in AOs, or photo studios - whichever you prefer.

That sounds so interesting...I'm really excited about the direction you are going and I'm sure you are too.
Dove Swanson: Me too! It will be fun I think :D or I will kill myself in the process. Either/or... exciting. LOL

Dove Swanson: Just ...probably want to say thanks to all of my wonderful customers ....you guys keep me keeping on ...you guys inspire me to keep making poses and learning new ways to better my "craft" ...and you guys make me want to be a better business person in SL ...that's why I try to maintain lower prices and return the favor in the form of freebies and gifts. So yeah, thanks! :D

Of Excellence In Customer Service

Because I am, as you know, a confessed shopaholic, I have the opportunity to meet and interact with designers from all over the grid everyday...just as I am sure many of you do. I have my favorites, of course, but by and large the majority of content creators that I meet go out of their way to be exceedingly kind and helpful. The past couple of days have provided three illustrations of how customer service in Second Life should be and I wanted to share my experiences with you.

This past weekend, I became a Storm Schmooz fan...and until this week, I had never even slipped my size zero tootsies into a pair of his shoes. You see, while wandering the grid with Guy, he mentioned how he would like to find a new pair of shoes. I remembered seeing some great men's dress shoes at Storm's shop and tp'd us there. After hemming and hawing a bit, I finally sauntered over to the gift vendor and purchased a pair of Men's Black High Gloss...which Guy, not knowing what I was up to, promptly declined. (Who declines shoes?!? Must be a man thing.) The following day, I sent a notecard to Storm, explained to him my dilemna...which, mind you, he had no obligation to fix, the product had been delivered properly, the recipient just didn't accept it. Within moments, my Guy was wearing a brand new pair of Men's Black High Gloss shoes. Storm could not have been more gracious, more understanding or more quick to fix my problem. So, right then and there, I vowed to snatch up some Storm Schmooz shoes of my own...and I've got the pictures to prove it.

One of these days I will learn to read the Official SL Blog before setting off to do some major damage to my Linden bank account. Alas, it seems I'm always a few steps behind. I made a quick stop at the Relay For Life Summer sim (more on RFL in an upcoming post) to pick up a couple of items that I knew I wanted right away. One of them was the Q-T Pie dress by Kiana Dulce. I donated the required amount, but the dress was not delivered. Eh, probably just the lag, so I wandered around a bit more, picked up another outfit and it was delivered, so I thought, "oh goodie, I'll run back and get that dress at Kiana's booth." I donate the required amount (yes, I made a second donation, RFL is near and dear to me...I'll make lots of donations during the event...whether there is an item attached or not), but again, the item is not delivered. I sent a notecard to Kiana, who accepted it as soon as she logged in and sent over the item right away...turns out there was a problem with the donation kiosk. She was kind and gracious and professional...I can't wait to visit her booth, and her store, again.

Lastly, you all know I am a crazy about Iota Ultsch of Tres Jolie (see my previous post here). Her latest release, Chasm, really caught my eye, so I ran over to pick it up. Sigh, it also wasn't delivered. I dropped a quick notecard to Iota, who tp'd me back to her store as soon as she logged on and a few moments later, I am wearing Chasm in Steel (and it is a fabulous!) In case I failed to mention, Iota is a ton of fun to chat with and is always filled with great information. Oh, and by the way...the smashing number at right is her latest release, Tigress. Absolutely stunning in person with a fabulous little brooche that settles right into the plunging neckline. Had to throw that one in just for fun.

So, what is the proper way to communicate a non-delivered item or problem with a transaction to a designer? (Hint: This is not it!) First, read their profile. Many designers will list their policies there or on their Picks tab. Find out how they want to be contacted and follow their instructions. Second, if there are not instructions or policies listed, put all of the pertinent information in a notecard. Content creators get alot of IMs and if they are offline, those IMs get capped. A notecard is the best way to communicate with them in a professional manner. What is the pertinent information? I have found that this format works best for me: Title the notecard with the Issue and Your Name, ie. Item Not Delivered - Gabby Panacek. List in the notecard your proof of purchase from your transaction history. This is important! It shows the designer that you did indeed pay for the item and that the $L were deducted from your account. Finally, be kind...it goes along way on the grid, and you will find that more people are willing to assist you if you approach them openly, honestly and politely.

A Rose By Any Other Name

During a recent shopping spree, I was searching the grid for a scarf to go with a coat that I had just purchased...and having no luck. That is, until I ran into Rose Farina, who pointed me in the right direction. After chatting with her for a bit, I learned that Rose is the creative force behind Rose Petal Creations. Being the generous soul that she is, she graciously offerered me a landmark and gift certificate to her store.

Gabby: Okay, lets get the easy stuff out of the way. When did you begin your Second Life?
"September 16, 2005"

What was your first day on SL like?
"In one word... it was overwhelming... everything was so amazing! It was so vast and so much to see that I couldn't decide what to do. That was two years ago.... can't even imagine what it would be like as a newbie now."

I can only imagine how much things have changed in the year and a half that you have been here. Did you always know that you had something creative to offer SL? How did you come to be a designer?

"No, actually it was about 6 months later that I first rezzed a prim, I was sure it would be to hard and complicated for me! I started designing several months after that, mostly because so much of what I wanted couldn't be found at the
time."

Tell us about some of the people who have offered advice and guidance along the way.

"One of the first people I met in SL was Nonna Hedges, I don't see her as often now as I once did but she taught me quite a bit in those early days about working hard and being kind to new people.

June Dion is a great friend now... I can remember when she had 10 outfits... I know... amazing isn't it? LOL She offers amazing detailing on all that she does and then sells them so cheaply. She gives so much to everyone around her at the same time. When I first started designing I said I wanted to have the same spirit.

Simone Stern who caught me wandering her store once and I told her I had been proud of my latest creations and came there to remind myself that I really suck after all and have a long ways to go. Simone told me to never give and to keep trying... and here I am.

The most credit, although I hate to admit, goes to my ex partner ... who once helped me believe in myself and saw my potential."

What inspires your creations?
"So very many things! Books I've read, ads on tv, the latest theme at one of the clubs I hang out at that I don't have a costume for already!"

You put so much into your work, how long does it typically take for you to see a new design through from concept to release?

"That really just depends... some are easier... some are pains pains pains lolol."

What recommendations do you have for anyone that wants to get into the fashion business?

"Don't think that just because someone out there doesn't like your items that no one will. Tastes are far flung in here, it doesn't make yours any less better...it's just different than what they are wanting ATM."

Who is your favorite designer? RL and SL

"Carolina Herrera. In SL it just depends on the type of clothes really :)"

When you are not working, who do you spend the most time with in-world?
"My partner and friend Rezago Kokorin... SL artist, amazing man. Who honestly believes in me whole heartedly and helps me in anyway he can."

What types of things do you like to do outside of SL?

"Spend time with my kids! I'm a single mommy of 4...a job takes up a lot of time. :)"

Friendship Week At caLLie cLine

It is friendship week at caLLie cLine and what a fun week it has been so far! Last night, I popped in to pick up the Day Three gift and, of course, shop around a little bit (I managed to exercise a bit of self-control for once, but I know it won't last the week, so you can be sure there is a CC shopping spree in my very near future). As is the norm in caLLiefornia, you can't stop in without making a new friend (or five) because all of the girls in the Cal Gal group are just so amazing! Taking advantage of the poseballs caLLie has set out, Joonie, Sky2, Kurvy, Chanteusse, Clover and I set about creating our pyramid (that's me at bottom center). I think I need to find a good chiropractor.

If you haven't yet joined the Cal Gal group, now is the time! And not just because caLLie is so generous (though I gotta tell you, she lavishes gifts on this group like no other I am, or have been, a member of), but she is also an amazing designer. I simply can't resist picking up each new release and by now, I think I own almost all of the first floor.

Big hugs to caLLie and all of the Cal Gals for making this the best week ever...you all rock!

Oh...and one last thing...I was playing around with a black and white skin that I picked up from La Sylphide at the Rue d'Antibes sim opening, so I took a couple of pictures and sent them to Tucor, who added a little lighting effect to come up with this finished product. Cure For The Blues

This past Sunday, I was feeling a little blue...Guy wasn't online yet, Pyper was nowhere to be found, Tucor was busy building his Lunar Landing and my inventory was just sitting there glaring at me, begging to be organized in some way. So, what's a girl to do? Why, go shopping, of course! I logged into my reader and checked out some of the blogs that I hadn't kept up with over the weekend and decided to visit the Gossip Girl Street Fair, based on a tip I picked up in the SL Free*Style blog. While wandering through the vendor's booths, I came across Rebel Hope. My eye instantly went to the stunning blue gown on the back wall. I immediately decided that this deep blue, sparkling confection would go a long way toward curing my Sunday Night Blues...I was not disappointed.

As if by magic, the instant I purchased the dress, Guy appeared online. I teleported home to show him my new dress and let's just say that his response erased any lingering blues that might have been hanging around. After adding a few accessories, Guy whisked me away for an evening of dancing aboard the RMS Titanic. (Another fantastic build...don't miss the poseballs at the bow of the ship for recreating the movie's iconic image.)

After dancing and exploring on deck, we decided to teleport to another dance venue where we encountered my old friend Ted and his lovely Ashby. ::waves:: It is always so nice to unexpectedly run into old friends on the grid.

Now, let me tell you about the dress that was the catalyst for this fantastic evening and the cure for my blues...

Rebel Hope's Lumiere Azure Limited Edition gown was created to celebrate Rebel Hope and RH Engel's third anniversary as Second Life content creators. From the high neck and plunging back to the mermaid skirt, this gown sparkles and shimmers in a deep shade of royal blue. According to the Rebel Hope blog, the dress was created in Windlight and this is the only color that it will be made in. Even after dancing in it for three hours, I still can't find the words to describe how beautifully it moves as it swishes and swirls around the dancefloor. The skirt comes in five parts, so that you can adjust the fullness to your individual liking.

To accessorize, I wanted to keep the jewelry light in color and chose classicly simple pieces. I opted for Rebel Hope earrings that I also picked up at the Gossip Girl Street Fair, the Claris White Pearl and Diamond Choker in Silver from Muse and the white gloves from Simone Stern's Cotillion Gown (awwww...this was my Maid of Honor dress from Pyper's wedding). For shoes, I chose Stiletto Moody's Elegant Slingbacks in Silver Twinkle. When it comes to hair, I normally stick to colors similar to ETD's blonde, but I tried on this Platinum shade from ETD and haven't been able to take it off. If only I had figured this out during the sale...*sigh* (see below for complete details)

The other thing I can't seem to take off lately...my new skin from Fleur. It is the Feline in Bronze 3 and I just love the cat-like liner on the eyes and I'm in love with the lip color. I purchased this skin with the 500L Gift Certificate that Roslin and CJ, in a display of their usual (and unparalleled) generosity, made available to members of the Fleur Update Group. A very big thank you to the Fleur team!

Okay...time for some accountability... I was out of commission for a week or so, and then I was just lazy. So, here is what I plan to bring to you this week (I'm thinking that if I put it into writing here, I will have to stick to it): An interview with Rose Farina and a review of her store Rose Petal Creations, more looks from Last Call, and a tour of some of my favorite places in SL. Très Jolie...Très Fabuleux

As I mentioned earlier this week, I spent a good deal of time at the Stiletto Moody sale last weekend. While coming out of my post-shopping-frenzy stupor, I noticed the most striking Avi at the front of the store. I immediately had to inquire as to where she found the fabulous outfit she was wearing. As luck would have it, the Avi in question was, in fact, the designer of said fabulous outfit! Within minutes, I had a landmark and found myself chatting with Ms. Iota Ultsch of Tres Jolie and her delightful assistant, BritneyParis Underwood in their boutique.

What a treat! I always enjoy meeting designers in-world, it really gives you the opportunity to "see" their designs from their point of view. I appreciated the way Iota was able to look at my skin and my hair and make suggestions as to which of her designs would best compliment my features.

I immediately fell in love with the green hue of the outfit that first drew me to Iota and snapped up Le Singe en Vert with it's faux fur empire waist, silk bow, cupro leggings and velvet top. We styled it with the Gold O Wedge from Stiletto Moody and some giant gold hoops that were a gift from Iota. Totally glam and completely fabulous! Of course, I couldn't get away without picking up a hot little platinum sequin cocktail dress and a darling little black dress.

Guy made such a fuss over the sequin dress, that you know I had to drag him back there with me the very next night! He generously purchased the Aboriginal Lace Dress for me (yes, he spoils me and yes, I love it!) Again Iota was in the store, quick to offer guidance for adjusting the dress to just the right color for my skin tone and she made several suggestions for the shoes, hair and jewelry that would best suit the dress and my avi.

The designs offered by Iota Ultsch at her Tres Jolie Boutique are not inexpensive...nor are they unreasonably priced. And, quite possibly, they are not for everyone. But, what I can tell you is this...Ms. Ultsch is an artist. Each texture is hand drawn, each seam is finished flawlessly and each piece transitions beautifully into the next. One only has to look at the creations "in-avi" to recognize the hours of work and meticulous attention to detail required to create a final product as well-crafted as those offered at Tres Jolie. These are quality items created by a designer who puts a higher priority on artistic expression and design than the quantity of items sold.

So, am I going to tell you to run down there and snap up every outfit in the shop? No. But, do make the time to visit the boutique, chat a little with Iota and BritneyParis, and treat yourself to an outfit or two that makes you feel a little more glamourous, a little more sexy or even a little more exotic. I, for one, look forward to collecting these wearable masterpieces created by a true fashion artist.

I think this is as good a time as any to address content theft in SL. There are a number of designers for whom I have great respect. These artists toil tirelessly to make sure that our avis are stylishly dressed and accessorized, that we have beautiful homes and furniture for relaxing, and that our skin, shapes and hair are always perfectly styled...we have so many options for creating cyber versions of ourselves (or our alter-egos) thanks in large part to the creativity, drive and talent of these enterprising individuals. They deserve our respect and admiration, and they deserve to be compensated for their efforts.

Content thieves rob these designers of their intellectual property and compensation. So, whether you choose to spend 5L for a dress or 15ooL...make sure that you are purchasing from the original creator of that dress. Do not support those who make their SL living by stealing from others. And if you find something you think has been stolen and copied, contact the original creator right away.

I Should Have Been A Mermaid

I was reading Creamy's Blog at SL Free*Style which led me to Sidonie's blog and finally I ended up at the Blogthings site wading through a huge list of personality quizzes (for the record, my Karaoke Theme Song would be Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer and my Martini Style is Classic). I'm not sure how I feel about the Personality Type quiz that I took, though...either the truth hurts or this horrible cold is really getting to me...I'll have to look at it again in a few days.

In the meantime, though, I'm a Water Girl...but, I've known that all along...I hope Guy doesn't mind if I hang up my Couture for a couple of days and commune with my inner mermaid.

I had the good fortune of running into Iota Ultsch, clothing designer extraordinaire and owner of Tres Jolie, while shopping the Stiletto Moody sale* over the weekend. From our conversations, and following her recommendations, I visited Paper Couture...another fabulous boutique.

I can't wait to upload some pictures and tell you more about Iota, Tres Jolie and Paper Couture...stay tuned...

* for the record...I did a pretty good job cleaning up at the sales over the last month and the Stiletto Moody sale was no exception. But...the new releases were so fabulous that I couldn't help but go waaayyy over budget stocking up on some really gorgeous and glam footwear...but that is a post of it's own. (sheesh, I had better get busy!)
